Description
 Great detective Sherlock Holmes and his assistant doctor John Watson prevent the last of the six ritual sacrifices. Lord Blackwood, a person guilty in crime, is sentenced to death penalty.
The next three months Holmes gets bored and can’t find a dignified deal for himself and Watson. Besides Watson gets engaged and moved from Holmes’ home. This made Holmes’ life more boring. After all John manages to convince Sherlock to come for the supper and meet his bride Mary Morstan. However the evening supper ends with scandal.
The next morning Sherlock’s acquaintance, a professional criminal woman Irene Adler, visits him. Sherlock Holmes is in love with her, but attempts to hide this fact by all means. She offers Holmes money for finding a red-headed dwarf named Reordan. Sherlock refuses her offer, but secretly follows Irene to find out the name of her client.
After returning back home Holmes and Watson receive terrible news. They find out that Lord Blackwood came back to life. His tomb was opened from inside and a body of the person Irene is looking for lies in the coffin. Now the reputation of Watson as a professional doctor lies on the line. Namely Watson stated that Blackwood was dead after being executed. And Watson and Holmes have to investigate the deal.
By visiting the home of Reordan Holmes and Watson found out that he conversed with the deceased Lord. They could have found more if they were not interrupted by the people of Blackwood that break into the room to eliminate the traces of strange experiments of the victim. By saving their life Holmes and Watson arrange a massacre in the town and sink the ship in the shipyard. Because of this they are being arrested.
Soon Watson isd against security of Mary. After sometime Holmes is taken to the secret occult society, a Temple of the Four Orders. The heads of the order, Sir Thomas and Lord Coward ask Sherlock to stop Blackwood. According to their words, ex member of the order is going to call out a magic force to this world. This member is going to build a new empire with the help of this force. During the conversation, Holmes understands that Sir Thomas is a father of Blackwood and warns him that, perhaps, Sir Thomas is the next victim, because the rest members of the Blackwoods are dead.
Understanding that the people of Blackwood cover up traces, Holmes comes to Irene to warn her about the danger. When Sherlock refuses to go away with her, Irene makes Holmes drink hypnotic. After regaining conscience Holmes learns that Sir Thomas has been killed in his home this evening. In the house of Sir Thomas Holmes finds the secret room with one wall imaging Sphinx. He also found the bone of the bull, the teeth of the lion, the feather of eagle and human hairspring of the in the room. All of these elements are parts of Sphinx and according of legends Sphinx was a source of incredible power. However, these are not enough to solve the puzzle given by Blackwood.
After finding new traces Holmes and Watson go to industrial factory where they meet Lord. However, they set the Lord because they have to rescue Irene from “the deceased”. Besides, Blackwood can’t escape because Watson activates the explosive that he left and after that a number of explosions and fire occur on the factory.
After regaining conscience after the explosions Holmes finds that neither Irene nor Watson is nearby. Besides, he learns that a warrant for arresting him was issued. After making sure that Watson is still alive Holmes hides and thinks about the meaning of Blackwood’s plan. The next morning he decides to tell Irene and John about his guess-work. According to his theory three persons that were killed make a part of Sphinx. Reordan represented a man, Sir Thomas represented a bull because he wore a ring with bull and the ambassador of America represents Eagle, because Eagle has been the national symbol of America for long time. Holmes guesses that the last point of Blackwood with lion symbol is a parliament of Great Britain. It is there he is going to make his final strike.
The conversation is interrupted by the policemen that suddenly broke into the room. Watson and Irene manage to run away. However, Holmes is being arrested and sent to Lord Coward, the minister of Internal Affairs. The minister reveals a secret to Holmes saying that Blackwood has killed all ministers but the confidants and became the head of the Order. Blackwood will govern the entire Great Britain. After finding out the required information Holmes escapes by jumping into Thames through the window. John and Irene pick him aboard the boat.
All together they sail under the drainage of Parliament where they find a chemical device created by Reordan. Its specialty is in that it can be controlled distantly. If Blackwood presses the button on the remote control then the entire Parliament will be filled with poisonous gas. While Watson and Holmes struggle with security, Irene manages to kick the cylinders with poisonous gas out of this device. She runs away, but Holmes reaches her on the very top of the Tower Bridge that is being constructed. On the top of the Tower Bridge Holmes sees Blackwood whose plan failed. He pushes Irene down from the bridge, but the latter manages to survive by dropping on the crossbeam. Holmes and Blackwood fight and the former wins. While Blackwood is hanging over the Thames hardly falling directly to the river, Holmes tells him that all mystic forces were only the usual tricks of Reordan and there was no magic at all. After all Holmes rescues Lord to make him reply for his crimes, but suddenly a beam falls on the criminal and pulls him down. Blackwood dies by being hanged on the chains.
At the end of the film Holmes recognizes that professor Moriatti was the client of Irene. The professor hunted the part of the machine of Reordan, not the poison. He wanted to obtain wireless device radio. Irene was a false maneuver because professor knew that Holmes will run after her and will leave the device unattended. And Moriatti will steal what he wants to. In the last stage of the film Holmes puts on his hat and decides to begin new investigation.
