Shania Twain (Aylin Regina Edwards) was born in the small town of Timmins that lies 500 miles away from Toronto. She was the eldest child in her family and therefore she spent little time playing with plush bears and Barbie dolls. "I can say that I practically had no childhood because I couldn't stay alone – says Alicia- The only chance to relieve I found in music. I would sit with a guitar, composing and singing something. I played till blood appeared on my fingers and I even liked it!" When she was eight her mother and stepfather realized that their daughter is a talent girl and made her perform in club scenes. Every night they woke her up at one o'clock and accompanied to work. Why so late? Respectable mother couldn't let her daughter look at drunken audience and the club bar didn't work after one o'clock. Shania's parents undertook all efforts to make their girl a star. They took her to radio stations, TV channels, and old people's homes. Shania wasn't happy about all this, but no one cared about it. Her family led a poor living and her mother, who was beginning everyday with a question "What will my children eat today?", strived to help her elder daughter to make her musical career. In spite of continuous series of performances Shania was managing to help her stepfather, who worked in local forest district. At the same time, the little girl handled axe and saw not worse than strong men did. Her life seemed to be difficult, but Shania didn't yet know what difficulties she would face next. When Shania Twain was 21 her parents crashed in automobile accident. "My life changed in one moment" says singer "I had younger sisters and brothers left at my disposal. The youngest of them were 13 – 14 years old and I became not simply a sister, but also a mother for them. I had a lot of duties then and therefore I had no time to compose anything. Then I worked as a singer in the nearest entertainment center. I bought a house, a credit in credit and calmed down. At that time I thought nothing would ever change.
