Description The first 8 megapixel camera phone to hit the European market was courtesy of the amazing Samsung i8510. The i8510 uses the same technology behind the equally good Nokia N95 including the Symbian operating system and Series 60 user interface. With a big bright screen and 8GB of built in memory and the features to support it its hard not to love this phone.
Samsung has thrust itself into the mainstream Symbian smartphone market with the i8510 and in a major way. The brightest spot on this shining star is the 8 megapixel camera. The camera on the i8510 is impressive no matter which way you look at it. The optics are just what you would expect from one of the best camera phone manufacturers. The features in the camera are just about as good as any regular digital camera you could hope to own as well. There are standalone buttons to turn the camera off and on and also take pictures. There is a 9x digital zoom but unfortunately no optical zoom. There is a double LED flash and a whole bunch of software features that make sure you take the best picture you can. This is not the #1 camera phone in the world but its in the top 5 on the current market.
The user interface is surprisingly the Symbian 9.3 and the Nokia Series 60 which make the phone about the same suer experience as the Nokia N95 and anyone familiar with that line of phone will be right at home on the i8510. Naturally Samsung has gone and tweaked some of the Nokia features but it has the same look and feel.
Not only is the user experience about the same as the N95 but the way works is pretty similar too. They both have a nice slide out keypad and touch sensitive buttons. Some users report having difficulties with touch sensitive buttons so make sure you try it out before committing to the phone. The cell phone also has a large LSD display that takes up a whole 2.8 to make use of all 16 million available colors.
The music player on the phone is another highlight in a already star studded repertoire It plays virtually anything you can throw at it and with a great sound too. The phone has Samsungs digital natural sound engine technology and with 8GB of storage space you are sure to have everything going your way. If you are a movie watcher on the go you will be happy to know that the media player can even play DivX movies which comes in handy these days. There is a variety ways to listen to all your media including a 3.5mm headphone jack so you can use your favorite headset. There is even a 3rd graphics card to make game play almost as good as your PSP.
There really isn't a whole lot not to like here. Everything on this phone is high quality and every you would come to expect in a top their smart phone. Its a touch call between this and the Nokia N96 for high end superiority but with its 8 megapixel camera the i8510 has to be the winner in this one.
