Description
The Nokia Twist is different than most phones thanks to the unusual design. Where most phones are rectangular this one is a perfect square with rounded edges. They call it the twist because of the way it swivels open. It’s debatable whether the phone is super cool or super impractical. That will likely come down to your own experience with it. Each side of the phone is 2.7 inches long and the screen is 2.4 inches wide with a big OK button below it. When you swivel it open the keypad opens up and you’re looking at a more rectangular phone. It’s certainly interesting. There are buttons for launching the music player and web browser and the buttons for dialing work well.
The Nokia Twist is comfortable during calls. Call quality was good on both ends. The folks I rang up reported no problems being able to hear me. To get online you’ll have to use Verizon’s high-speed EvDO network but you won’t be able to access the internet using Wi-Fi hotspots, which is a shame. What that means is that you’ll have to have a 3G network available to get your internet fix. This shouldn’t be a problem for most people but keep in mind that if 3G goes down or if you’re in a remote area you’ll be out of luck. The web browser is functional but there are occasionally errors and issues browsing. The screen is also a little too small to get any real work done.
While the Nokia Twist might seem like a smart phone it’s not. That means you don’t get access to an app store. If you need smart phone capabilities then you should just buy one of those. Sending email via your phone is a bit of a hassle since you’re limited to Windows Live, AOL Mail, Yahoo Mail or Verizon.net. It costs $5/month extra to connect to other email accounts. Texting is a breeze and the software works really well to making sending messages a breeze. You get access to V Cast Music with Rhapsody service so you can listen to and endless library of music. The phone’s jack is 2.5mm and that’s not compatible with most sets of headphones so you’ll likely have to purchase an adapter. The phone is $99.99 when you sign a two year contract with Verizon.
