Description
The Nokia Nuron is a nice deal at $69.99 with a contract and it’s a similar phone to the 5230 and 5800 that preceded it. Nokia is evolving their phones and they’ve done a good job with this one. It features a 360x640 pixel touch screen and comes with a GPS with Ovi Maps navigation, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm stereo jack and a 2 megapixel camera. That’s on the low end for a phone camera nowadays so it’s not an ideal solution for taking quality pictures.
The Nuron is running on Nokia’s S60 5th Edition software. It’s the first version to include touch screen support and it works well enough. It’s not quite as smooth as software that was designed from the start to be used on a touch screen phone though. The UI is imperfect and there are times when you have to use skinny little scrolling bars to make your way through everything and that can get hugely frustrating since it’s imprecise.
As with anything once you have a little practice you’ll find it a lot less annoying. The Nokia Nuron ends up being easy to use with a little time. The SIM card and microSD card slots are on the side of the phone instead of under the battery door, unlike most phones. They’ll point that out when you open the phone though so don’t worry.
The Nuron continues Nokia’s reputation for excellent voice quality and reception. If you’ve suffered in the past from disconnected calls and bad quality then you might want to make the switch. You can also use it with virtually any Bluetooth headset. Battery life is terrific and you should be able to go several days without charging. It’s not a great phone but it’s great at the price they’re asking.
