Description

The best of Nokia just got that much better with the Nokia N96. This beauty comes packed with 16BG memory, GPS satellite navigation, a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, 3G video calling, and all the other fun toys you would expect from this phone. There are downsides to this phone too such as poor battery life and the operating system is not the most reliable out there.

The N96 was one of the most hyped up and anticipated phones of 2008. There is good reason for this too. There were lots of problems in trying to get the phone to market as Nokia strive to deliver the treasure they had promised us all.

The phone is a real nice phone when you first lay eyes on it. Its big, black and shiny with curves in all the right places and the design makes it that much sleeker then the N95. The real difference over the N95 is the weight, the N96 feels and actually is much heavier.

Internally the N96 is not that much different then the N95 8GB edition. The user interface has moved up a version from 3.1 to 3.2 and the built-in memory has been doubled to give you that much more space. The last noticeable addition to the N96 is the Live TV feature which enables you to watch Live Tv using the internal antenna and DVB-H TV tuner. Unfortunately, you will need to be in a area that supports the DVB-H broadcasting system in order to really enjoy this sweet feature.

To much excitement the operating system has been upgarded from the often sluggish and unreliable N95. While it is noticeably better than its predecessor it still does have its freezing issues and if this is your first smart its is tougher to navigate through then "normal" phones.

Getting to the toys that make this phone great. The camera is top notch and may just be the best of any camera phone. This camera has 5 megapixels backed by Carl-Ziess optic and Tesser Lens that was regarded as the best until the the recent 8 megapixel cameras popping up now. The dual LED flash was known as the best of its time but he has now been surpassed as well. For all your uses this camera is just what you need.

The Nokia includes the GPS navigation and this time around its is free to download your maps so you really have no excuse for getting lost. Naturally the N96 has everything you could ever expect under the hood. Music player that supports all the common formats which also includes a FM radio. It is a smartphone so it connects to the 3G network and connectivity is possible using just about anything including: Bluetooth, USB, Wireless LAN, TV-out and a standard headset connection.

Battery life is one of the real downers of the N96 as it is even weaker the N95 which didn't have the best battery to begin with. Since this phone has all the latest tech gadgets and they like to suck the juice you will find the need to charge just about everyday.

So while this phone is an improvement over the already powerful N95 it could have been a bit better. The phone does everything well but could really have been polished a little more.

Features of the Nokia N96 include:

Series 60 Symbian interface (version 3.2)
