Description

A feature rich smartphone with a 3.2 megapixel camera and GPS that is seriously flawed with a keypad that just doesn't do its job right. When the Nokia N78 was first announced there were great expectations for this smartphone. The 60 series smart phone had plenty to like coming equipped with GPS, WiFi, 3H network connection, Carl Zeiss equipped camera, FM Radio, MP3 player that even plays over your car radio and many more unbelievable features. Pack it all up and in a sleek and stylish package that weighs just 102g and you have winner on your hands right? Well not this time...

The only reason this phone scores so poorly is due to the keypad. This keypad is one of the worst of any phone out there from function to usability to materials used. Makes one wonder if Nokia forgot to develop this aspect of the phone to to match the rest of its great features. It must have been the last thing that was rushed to get this phone into production. The keys barely work and you never know if you are gonna get the character you thought you pushed to actually come up on the screen. The Nokia N95 is a very similar phone and has a keypad that actually works. Most user of this phone will give up and stop using it as you get more and more frustrated as you try to use this otherwise fantastic phone. A real disappointment from Nokia that could have been one of the best smartphone out there. And all of this over a small but important detail like a keypad.

For those that do suffer through the unusable interface of this phone will actually get some really cool features. The camera is a 3.2 megapixel camera that has a Carl Zeiss optics & Tessar Lens with autofocus, 20x digital zoom, LED flash and photo editor which takes great photos by any measure. The music player will get you going as well supporting MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+ & WMA formats that even lets you make playlists and attach album art to your music. To make it all sound good you have plenty of choices. You can use a included Stereo headset using the 3.5mm stereo jack or you can use your Bluetooth set also. If you are driving and want to hear your tunes on your car stereo the FM transmitter will let you do that too. Pretty cool stuff.

The display on this sleek unit is great too with its large 2.4 inch screen and 16 million colors on a 240 x 320 high resolution screen. You can surf the internet and your emails with the 3G network connection giving you download speeds of up to 3.6Mbps. The N78 lets you talk anywhere in the world using the Quadband GSM and never get lost with built-in GPS.

Unfortunately none of these great features will help you at all since the phone is so hard to use. Best to move on and get the comparable and user friendly Nokia N95. So close yet so far from the Nokia team.
