Description
The Nokia E71x is one of the lowest-priced smartphones on the market at just $100. AT&T has exclusive rights to it and they’ve packed it with carrier-specific content to make the experience an even more valuable one for you. The design is incredibly sleek and slender. Most smartphones get bulky but this one is small and ideal for the business user that wants something to slip easily into his pocket. It’s one of the best phones of its type on the market.
Calls on the phone are good but not the best. The E71 by Nokia has slightly better call quality than the E71x but in the end it’s certainly good enough that you’re not going to be frustrated. The speakerphone is loud enough but it’s not going to blast your eardrums. The phone lacks the ability to search your contact list simply by typing the person’s name in from the home screen. It’s an annoyance because it was present in other Nokia phones.
Text messaging on the Nokia E71x lacks the threaded feature that newer smartphones are using and it’s a bit of a disappointment. It’s straightforward and easy though. The phone has support for Oz’s instant messaging app so you can chat with people on AOL, MSN or Yahoo thanks to it. There’s a Mail for Exchange app that should help you work with Microsoft Exchange for email but it’s a bit of a hassle and it doesn’t work as well as Outlook on a Windows Mobile device.
You’re given excellent options for scheduling meets and appointments. It’s easy to setup notices, etc. Browsing the web is exceptionally easy on the Nokia E71x. Pages load quickly and look excellent. Scrolling is smooth and fast. To enter a URL you have to visit the Navigation Options submenu, which is decidedly unfriendly of them. Everything else is terrific though. This isn’t a great music phone; it’s meant more for business. The player works fine but getting to it is difficult and it’s not pretty. Videos play well if they’re compressed to work on the 320x240 screen. It’s not really a multimedia phone. The camera is likewise mediocre. It’s a 3-megapixel device with auto-focus but you’ll often find that the camera can’t really do the focusing work. Whoops! For the price the problems are worth ignoring, especially if you’re interested in the Nokia E71x as a business device.
