Description
Finally a touchscreen phone from the good people at Nokia! The 5800 XpressMusic is Nokias first venture into touch screen phone finally catching up to Apple, LG and Samsung. It took them awhile but its finally here. Its not as sleek and polished as the iPhone but its is loaded with excellent features so it maybe actually be better then the iPhone just not as sleek...yet! The main features of this phone are of course the 16 million color high quality full screen display, the 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, 3G video calling, the music player & FM radio, GPS positioning with Nokia Maps, WiFi, Bluetooth and an 8GB memory card. To top it all off the web-browser supports flash so you get the latest internet experience. The phone is quite personal since you can pick it up in black, red or blue.
When you first see the new 5800 XpressMusic you will notice it looks like every other touchscreen phone out there. They all have a nice bright screen that runs the whole length of the phone. The difference maker on the 5800 is the much narrower body then the iPhone measuring a sleek 52mm which allows you to run the whole phone quickly and easily with only one hand. The screen is just like you would expect with a big and bright 630 x 360 pixel display of 16 million colors which helps this phone become very easy to navigate and use and even rotates as you turn the phone offering both portrait and landscape views. Using the phone is quite easy too since it supports all sorts of input options such as: finger touch, stylus and plectrum with a virtual alphanumeric keypad, full and mini QWERTY keyboards and handwriting recognition. The only real buttons you will find on this phone are the power, screen lock and volume. The touchscreen is not quite as good as the iPhone but its pretty close and with some of the other features included it gets right up there with the industry leading iPhone.
The 5800 has a 3.2 megapixel camera that isn't the industry leader by far but with its Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus and double LED flash it sure leaves the iPhone in the dust. The same lens can also capture video at 640x480 pixels and a nice 30 frames per second, all with stereo sound. Since the camera is located on the front of the camera you can actually make video calls using the 3G network.
Music is what launched the iPhone so the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has some big shoes to fill. Luckily the 5800 has a great player in it that is easily controllable and has everything you would hope it does. It has an 8 band equalizer and a standard headphone jack to make the tunes sound great. And the phone comes with a 8GB memory card that can handle 2000 or your favorite mp3 tracks and if that's not enough you can expand your memory all the way to 16GB. And with the comes with music feature you get unlimited music downloads for a year and if that doesn't cover your music needs there is always the built-in FM radio.
The 5800 is a great for surfing the web too with its large view screen and 3G network connection. And if you are in a Wi-fi spot you can connect to that too. What doesn't this thing do? It also has GPS, Bluetooth, USB and a TV-Out feature. And all the cables are included right out of the box. With its decent battery life you get to use it all for a long time too.
So all in all you get a phone that is really comparable to an Apple iPhone and real good touchscreen phone for Nokia first touchscreen venture.
