The Nokia 2710 is designed to bring the Nokia Maps features – which is an amazing piece of technology – to the masses. It’s a low cost handset that gives you all the functions of a phone along with their tremendous GPS navigation. The advantages are the price and the quality of Nokia Maps, which is one of the best GPS systems in the world and beats out anything offered by other phone companies. There are flaws with it though.

The screen is rather small at just 2.2 inches so it’s not ideal for looking at a map while you’re driving. Instead it’s better if you’re walking through an urban area or directing someone else. If you purchase the Nokia 2710 you get full lifetime access to the Nokia Maps service and there are no other ongoing costs other than your phone plan, obviously. The handset is exceptionally slim and weights just 87g. It fits into a shirt pocket with ease. The design is a standard candybar look with the screen up top and the number keys on the lower half. It’s a simple look but they don’t do fancy stuff when they’re aiming for the lower end market.

The S40 OS powers the phone and while it’s not super fancy it gets the job done and is easy to use and navigate. The Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition is primarily about the Nokia Maps service but there are a few other features of note. They have a 2.0 megapixel camera that can record videos as well. The media player supports multiple formats but the sound quality isn’t fantastic so don’t get too attached. You can expand the memory and you’ll have to because what they include is only 64mb. There’s a 3.5mm output jack for headphones and a stereo FM radio. There is no 3G or WiFi support but that’s mostly about keeping the cost low. The phone gets the job done in the GPS department and the price is good. It’s exactly what it promises to be.
