The Nokia 1616 is intended for the low-end user looking to make calls and send text messages. If you want multimedia functions from your cell phone then you need to look into something else. The benefit is that you don’t have to pay much money for the phone and you can get this one without having to sign up for a long-term contract. The Nokia 1616 has a 1.8 inch TFT screen at a resolution of 128x160. It doesn’t support a huge range of colors but it’s in color and it gets the job done.

The contact list holds up to 500 names along with their information. You can create multiple phone books to hold different contact lists and there’s a calendar feature for inputting the important dates in your life so you don’t forget. The alarm clock works well and is handy for reminding you of when to wake up, when to pick up your kids, etc. The speaker phone is great for when you need to go hands. Speed dialing is available for the people that you call the most so it’s always easy to get to them.

There’s an FM radio tuner built in to find local stations but the speaker leaves a lot to be desired so it’s an imperfect way to listen to music. There are MP3 ringtones allowed to replace the sometimes grating tones that are preloaded. They have a few games preloaded on the phone but they’re nothing special. This is just the most basic of phones made to accomplish the most basic of tasks. You can send text messages and pictures but that’s about it and there’s no QWERTY keypad so you’ll be pressing a whole lot of keys.
