 Motorola really knows how to market to girls. The U9 is definitely one of those phones that is aimed at girls with its color options. The U9 is available in both pink and purple with a metallic finish that will be the sparkle in any girls purse. The phone itself is a clamshell design with soft edges and a external screen with a mirror finish that hides from view when not in use.
The phone has a variety of features to please the ladies such as 2 megapixel camera, music player and a microSD memory card slot. The only thing that girls will not be too happy about with this phone is how easily the phone can scratch when rattling around in the purse amongst all the keys and other treasures commonly found in ladies handbags. It can alsoze up time to time for no reason which is a little bit annoying.
Make no mistake about it this phone is aimed at the girlie crowd and Motorola makes no excuses about it. It has a pretty pink or purple shell and it folds up nice and cute too. It was made light weight and with soft curves that naturally appeal to girls. When you touch the phone it also feels soft so girls will like the way it feels in their hands while they are using it. On the outside of the clam is a external touchscreen that has a neat mirror finish that allows it to virtually disappear from view when its not in use. The touchscreen allows you to use basic functions of the phone and the music player without ever opening the clam up.
The phone was modeled after the Motorola PEBL so similarities are certainly noticeable but the the U9 looks better and also has more upgraded features. The camera on the U9 is a 2 megapixel camera that is not setting any industry standards but does the trick for most social applications. It does not come with a flash so the best pictures are mad during the day or in well lit areas. The camera also doubles as a video record that is more than good enough for YouTube videos.
The main screen is a high quality TFT screen that supports 262,000 colours and the image quality can rival just about any high end display out there. The music player is another highlight that can handle almost any type of music format and comes with its own Motorola software that makes transferring music to the U9 from a computer really easy via a included USB cable. The internal memory is only 25 megabytes which is not all that much but you can get a microSD card to slide into the available slot. The phone supports cards as big as 4GB which is about 1000 songs worth.
With all these features you would expect a battery life that is sub par but the U9 battery life is actually quite good. Part of the reason for a long lasting battery life is that the main screen is an OLED construction which is known for its energy savings. Heavy users of the phone or if you listen to the music player alot will have to charge more often but casual users can easily go a week between charges of the battery.
The Motorola U9 gets high marks considering its low price and how girl friendly the phone is but there are some serious areas of concern on the phone. First is the fact that the mobile phone tends toze or turn off time to time for no good reason. The other thing with a soft and shiny phone like this is that they scratch quite easily. So if you have alot of keys or hard objects in your purse along with your phone it could get scratched quite quickly.
