Description The first generation Motorola phone in the ROKR series. The E1 ROKR is built by both Apple and Motorola making it the first mobile phone to run Apple's iTunes system just like on a iPod. The iTunes application is so unique to the ROKR that many have nicknamed it the iPod Phone.
This phone was designed around the music so everything else this phone does is just a bonus. The fully functioning iTunes makes it easy to listen to AAC and MP3 files as well as create and edit playlists right from the phone. You can download tracks from the iTunes store but be aware that each track takes about 30 seconds to download. Listening to your music is easy with the 3D sound from the dual speakers installed. You can also listen to your tunes using the supplied stereo headphones. Bluetooth fans will be disappointed since you can not listen to music using Bluetooth on the ROKR.
There is a camera on the ROKR but it is only a basic camera with VGA resolution. It was never designed around the camera like many phones. This one is all about being a solid music player so anything else is just extra gravy. The camera will keep you happy enough for those pic on the go just don't replace your regular camera with this one.
Being a music phone means that memory space is needed, and lots of it. The phone makes use of an expandable TransFlash memory card that will suffice for most users. There is a kicker here however, iTunes has limited storage to only 100 songs. With a great music phone like this and only being able to store 100 songs is like driving a Ferrari and only allowed to use 2nd gear. Sure its fun but the dream of what could have been is always there.
Overall the phone is good at what it does, and that is to play music. Having iTunes running on a phone is about as good as feature as you can ever ask for if you love music. The 100 song limit is certainly disappointing but if you are good about swapping music in and out then the issue is not that big. This is a pretty good replacement for an MP3 player and should make the list of ones to try before deciding for good.
