Description

Motorola A 1000 A really stylish touchscreen phone that has been a long time coming. The Motorola A1000 is the next generation of the A925 and by next generation we mean way better. It does everything the old one did and much more. It is again designed for business users who need access to all their emails, Internet and documents while out and about.

When you first see the A1000 or compare it to the A925 you will be amazed at how much smaller it is and how much better it actually looks. The A1000 is also slimmer and also weighs less which make it that much more desirable. The screen is the exact same model used on the A925 and that suits the phone just fine. The TFT touchscreen display is 4cm x 6cm which shows off 65,000 colours of high resolution graphics. Once again the touchscreen supports data input using handwriting recognition software or a virtual keyboard. For optimal touchscreen use a stylus pen is included.

Symbian 7 operating system runs the whole A1000 just like its predecessor so the amount of downloadable apps is extensive. Using 3rd party apps you can get the mobile phone to do just about anything you need. The phone can sync up with your PC and makes sure your Outlook and Lotus Notes info is up to date. The cell phone connects to the Internet with a 3G connection and that allows for quick web browsing. Email is also fully supported and the phone can read almost all Microsoft Office document types not to mention PDF files. The A1000 is really a small mobile office.

Finally the camera was upgraded from the VGA rotating camera to a respectable 2 camera system. A small VGA camera on the inside for 3G video calling while the outside camera is a decent 1.2 megapixel camera that takes pretty good photos. There is no flash for the camera so day time pictures turn out best. It can also record video. Being a smartphone it can multi-task which means you can take a photo while talking to someone.

The A1000 also has a media player that plays both audio and video files. The music player can play all standard audio formats. There are external speakers this time around so you can listen to your music with no headphones. The internal memory has been somewhat upgraded compared to the A925 and now has 24Mb built in. You can also add more memory via a TransFlash card up to 256Mb in size.

The biggest pitfall of the A925 was the way it drained batteries. The A1000 is much better than the A925 but its still uses batteries quite quickly. Most users will find themselves charging up at least every other day and heavy users will be charging daily.

Overall a pretty darn good phone that deserves a look when shopping for business phones. It does everything rather well and the 3G connection with a Symbian OS make it a winner.
