Description
The Shine is the next release from LG's signature "Black Label" series. Following the success of the wildly popular LG Chocolate the Shine is another slide design phone that was designed with looks in mind. This is a phone for those that feel their phone should be just as much of a fashion accessory as a fully functioning mobile device.
The LG Shine quite lives up to its name with its silver polished steel look that literally shines when light hits it. To really make it shine, LG made the big screen on the front turn into a mirror when the phone is not in use which makes it stand out in the crowd. As with all shiny and mirror like phones you will have to take good care of it since it picks up fingerprints and scratches quite easily so make sure you keep this baby protected. The mirror effect is really something and will keep you entertained for the first little while when you first see it. The screen is bright and alive when you are using it, when you stop using your phone it goes dark and then a few more moments of inactivity will turn it into a mirror finish. Touch a button and it all comes alive again. This should keep your Saturday nights busy for some time.
Now to actually use the phone you will have to get used to the two buttons on the front and also the roller in the the middle. The roller has been met with mixed reviews since many users find it hard to use as a means of quick navigation. The music player can be operated via a button on one of its sides so you never have to open up the slider to listen to your music on the go. When you do open up the slider you will notice a pretty conventional metallic keypad that is not touch sensitive after the many issues f the LG Chocolate. For those familiar with the Motorala RAZR series will be reminded of it when they see this blue glowing metal keypad on the Shine. When the phone is on the display has plenty of shine too. The screen is a TFT with 262,00 colours and 240 x 320 pixels which is the industry standard these days for any high end phones.
The features on the Shine aren't too shabby either. It has a 2 megapixel camera which may not be ground breaking but it has a Schneider-Kreuznach lens which vastly improves picture quality. The quality of shots with the LG Shine are good enough for those moments on the go but don't get rid your 8 megapixel standalone digital camera quite yet. The camera does have a LED flash and autofocus to improve your pictures at night. The camera can also double as a video recorder to catch those precious moments and send them to your friends. The music player can handle any music formats quite nicely and is a good replacement for your current music player. With the use of a microSD card you can load up to 2GB of music to your LG Shine which should be enough for any music fan.
There are some issues with the otherwise good Shine. The screen and body get scratched up real easy and the roller navigation is not that great. There are also reports of low ringtone volume and bad reception so you may want to check this phone out before buying one. It seems it is a quirky phone with some funky controls but hey its SHINY!
