Description
Evanescence (ev'e-nes'ens) means dispersion or disappearance, similar to vapor.
The founders of the given group are vocalist Amy Lee and guitar player and the author of songs Ben Moody. They met in youth summer camp. Once Ben heard Amy playing "I'd Do Anything for Love" by Meat Loaf on the piano and immediately offered her to form a group. "Evanescence" started its existence in Little Rock since the end of 90s, when the stages were dominated by death metal and frank soft rock. In contrast with others, while still being impressed by Byork, Danny Elfman, the boys tried to release their own first records.
Their second song, a kind of gothic hymn, was called "Understanding" and lasted for seven minutes. For some reasons one of the local radio stations decided to release it on air and it became the real hit. In 1998 "Big-Wig Enterprises" label released EP named "Evanescence".
In 1999 the same label released their second EP "Whisper/Sound Asleep". This mini-album was released only in 50 copies and was quickly sold. It was sold in a plain plastic box without insert. The group became acquiring some popularity. At last, in 2000 the first album named "Origin" containing 11 songs appeared on shop counters. One of the steps towards further success of the group was its first single "Bring me to life". The record was made jointly with vocalist of the group "12 stones", Paul McCoy and sounded in "Daredevil". Thereafter, it became the soundtrack to this film.
