Description This quintet of attractive singing handsome men, Backstreet Boys, at least at first glance, go along a well beaten road laid by their famous predecessors from British group of five. Backstreet Boys got such groups as "Color Me Badd" and "Shai" under them. The group also took an ex-manager of NKOTB.
On the other hand, Backstreet Boys behave relatively quite. They didn't set fire to hotel rooms and were not accused in that someone performed their vocal parts. Well, they are still young and have a lot of time.
Backstreet Boys was formed in 1993 in Orlando. The graduates of older classes A.J. McLeen, Howie Dorough and their younger friend Nick Carter frequently met each other on musical parties. Gradually they began singing together and thereafter they invited two more participants, Kevin Richardson and his cousin from Kentucky, Brian Littrell. The group started performing on school dance parties and in local night clubs. When Backstreet Boys included to their repertoire such pop-rhythm-‘n'-blues numbers as "Tell Me that I'm Dreaming", this turned the local teenagers on and somebody of them called to the Jive Records. As a result the group was offered a contract.
Although nowadays there are already over three million copies of their album of the same name, at that time the success of the group was limited to the boundaries of its native city. The single of 1995 year "We've Got it Going on" was quickly forgotten and took only 69th place in Billboard hit parade. However, it became popular in Germany and soon the group got to the center of European festival Boysapalooza together with other teenager groups like Take That and Boyzone, that dominated in changeable European markets of that time.
"There were several so-called boy groups. So we got to already well-established market. – says Littrell, obviously completely confident in applicability of economic criteria to music. – As far as we were Americans, we brought to Europe a new sounding. We had something else. Unlike other boy groups, we were not only a team of handsome boys, but we could also sing songs."
