Description

The Acer X960 is one of the first smart phones the company has released. They didn’t want to get left behind all the other companies rushing to put out such handsets and they came up with a whole line of them. The display of the Acer X960 is 2.8 inches with 480x640 pixels on a TFT touchscreen. There are 256mb of ROM and 128mb of RAM. The processor is a Samsung S3C 6400 mobile processor running at 533mhz. The phone runs on the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS.

You’ll see that the design is sleek and rather nice. There’s a stylus for use with the touchscreen slipped into a little space on the right side and volume control, reset button and select button on the right side. The display is a little difficult to see when you’re out in the sun so you’ll have to work to get in the shade or find the right angle, which is a pain. There is no accelerometer so when you rotate the phone the screen will not follow. That’s a handy feature that more phones should implement and this one fails to do.

When you start the phone it takes a while for everything to initialize so it’s not ideal for people that need to make lots of quick calls. There are three home screens to the interface and you can swipe through all of them to see the many apps available to you. The touch screen on the Acer X960 is often slow to respond and you’ll be selecting certain items multiple times because of that. It gets really frustrating.

The stylus is a must if you’re entering text using the on-screen QWERTY keyboard. Without it you’ll be hitting letters multiple times with your fingers. The Acer X960 comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera with an LED flash that you can stills and video with. It’s really just okay. The pictures are a touch blurry because the focus isn’t great and the colors aren’t nearly as vibrant as they should be. It’s not a great phone but it’s their first foray in the smart phone market so perhaps their next effort will be better.
