Description
Acer is primarily a computer company but they’ve seen that much of the future of electronics lies in the mobile phone market and they’re jumping in with the Acer DX900. The phone is a tad chunky so those looking for sleek and sexy will want to look elsewhere. The screen takes up most of the phone’s face and is surrounded by black with the call end, call start and navigation buttons at the bottom of it.
The touchscreen is 2.8 inches diagonal and delivers 640x480 pixels. It runs on the Windows Mobile platform and while that’s generally good some of the icons end up being really small and it makes it feel like a hunt and peck game trying to find them with your fingers. They include a stylus with the casing to make that a little easier for you. One of the unique features of the phone is the use of dual SIMs. You can choose which SIM to make a call from and which to send an SMS from. You can also manage contacts on both SIMs.
The 533mhz processor is wicked fats and processes everything at blazing speeds. They have a host of applications they’d like to install as soon as you turn the headset on and most prove useful. One of the apps is called Locations SMS and it uses the GPS to attach your physical location to an SMS message if you want. The business card scanning program allows you to take pictures of a business card and have the details automatically placed into your contacts list.
The 3 megapixel camera takes decent shots but they’re a far cry from high quality and will not replace your digital camera. The music player is decent but there’s a 2.5mm jack so you’ll have to get a converter for that if you want to use your quality headphones to listen to the music. There’s built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The Acer DX900 is a good first entry into the cell phone market and they’ll be improving on it in the future. The best feature for some of you will be the two SIMs so you can essentially run two phones from the same phone. The Windows Mobile is nice and the front end they built over it is even better. It’s a good investment.
