Description
 In 2009 American geologist Adrian Helmsley comes to India to his friend Satnam, which found that the flow of neutrino, caused by incredible burst on the Sun melts the core of the Earth and moreover the temperature rises very fast. Adrian informs Carl Anheuser, a head of the administration of the president, and the president of the USA Thomas Wilson, that this heating will cause a chain reaction that will inevitably lead to global cataclysm.
On the G8 summit in 2010 the president of the USA informs the leaders of other countries about the coming catastrophe without the presence of journalists. The leaders decide to start a secret project on rescuing the human race in the name of strategically selected 400,000 people on specially constructed gigantic ships named arks in the Hymalayas. Financing will be made by selling one-million-euros-per-person worth tickets to the rich men.
In 2012 the writer from Los Angelos Jackson Curtis having a side job as a driver of the limousine of Russian billionaire Yuriy Karpov, goes to national park Yellowstone together with his children. Kate, ex wife of Curtis, lives with children and lives in open marriage with Gordon Silberman, an amateur pilot and cosmetic surgeon. During the trip with children Curtis meets conspiracy theorist Charlie Frost. Frost travels in a van and leads his own radio show directly from the Yellowstone Park. The show is devoted to the coming doomsday, which should happen in 2012 according to the Maya forecast. Frost promises Curtis that he has a map of the place where a secret place for building arks is marked. Curtis returns home with children and at that time earthquakes begin all along the California and the crust fractures begin to appear. Curtis understands that Frost was right and hires a small private airplane. He takes ex wife, children and Gordon and thanks to the pilot skills of Gordon they manage to get off the ground as the takeoff strip crushes. During flight they observe Los Angeles sinking in the Pacific Ocean.
While the radio speaks about destructive earthquakes around the whole Earth, the group flies to Yellowstone Park to take a map from Frost. A huge volcano erupts in park and as a result of eruption Frost dies. However Curtis manages to find the map in the van of Frost and fly away with group.
After finding out that the place for building arks is located in China, the group lands in Las Vegas to find the airplane capable of cross the Pacific Ocean. There they find Yuriy Karpov with his children, Mistress Tamara and private pilot Sasha. Tamara turns to be ex-patient of Gordon. As the result of earthquake Karpov lost his own airplane on which he planned to reach one of the arks. He already has bought tickets. His pilot has found an airplane Antonov-500, abandoned by crew and ready for taking off. However, he needed the second pilot. Gordon has to become the second pilot and the group flies away with Karpov.
From Washington air force one, with Adrian, Anheuser and the daughter of President Wilson, Laura, flies toward arks. The President refuses to leave Washington. After telling the truth about the started catastrophe in his last talk he dies under the wreckage of USS John F. Kennedy that was thrown to the White House by gigantic tsunami. Because vice-president of the USA dies and the speaker of Representatives Hall has gone missing, Anheuser declares himself the head of the government.
As a result of tectonic shifts of Earth crust and the change of poles the route of airplane to China turns out much shorter when was expected. Due to the breakage of engine the airplane crushes and pilot Sasha dies. The rest participants survive by jumping out of the airplane on the Bentley car. The group is found by the pilots of helicopters of People’s Liberation Army of China. These helicopters were transporting animals to the arks. However, it turns out that only Karpov and his two children have tickets. The helicopters take them to arks and the rest people of the group are picked up by the buddhish monk. With the help of monk’s brother the group finds way to arks via the hydraulic system of closing the gates of arks. Monk’s brother worked during the construction of arks. One of four arks is damaged as a result of earthquake and the shipment is done only on three arks.
Satnam dies in India from Tsunami. Before dying he manages to call Adrian. It turns out that Tsunami is much closer to arks when it was expected. Therefore Anheuser orders to close the gates of the arks and stop waiting for the rest of people to board the arks. Adrian manages to convince the leaders of G8 to allow the people to come to arks. During the jamming Yuriy sacrifices himself for sake of his children and dies because he didn’t manage to climb the gates. Gordon dies inside the ark by getting into the rotating mechanism. However, during closing the gates are being blocked in half open state. When the Tsunami strikes the section beside the gate gets flooded and isolated from other sections. Because the gates are not closed, the ark couldn’t start engine. Tamara sinks. Curtis and his son Noah set the mechanism of blocking while being underwater. As a result the gates close and the team avoids the uncontrollable crush against the Everest.
When the inundation of water stops, then the data received from satellites showed that the highest point of the Earth is now situated in Drakensberg Mountains, Africa. Three arcs move to the Cape of Good Hope. The protective shields on the decks open and people come out to the fresh air. In the end of the movie the spectator can see the Earth with changed outlines of Africa and Asia continents.
