A new line of audio and video accessories has come to the iPhone courtesy of Onkyo. The most sought after is the Onkyo’s Universal connection dubbed the U-Port. The U-Port consists of a dock for the iPhone and iPods and has a HD Radio module. The U-Port dock was first introduced on the TX-SR507 and TX-SR607 and is now ready to hit the Apple shelves. The dock has everything you need to recharge your iPhone as well as multiple connections for audio and video outputs so that you can plug it into your home theater systems. It is the first 3rd party hardware to carry Apple’s “Works on iPhone” certification and should be available sometime in May.
The Trend Smart Surfing Application by Trend Micro is officially available for the iPhone through the iTunes store. The Trend Smart Surfing app is a web browsing tool that blocks users from accessing websites that Trend Micro deems as dangerous. Trend Micro’s Web reputation technology, a component of the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network has been helping web surfers stay protected from having personal data mined and stolen for many years now so this should be a welcome addition to just about any iPhone user. Gmail has been available for your phone for sometime now but it has finally gotten a face lift specifically for the iPhone and Android devices. The new Gmail is faster to open, faster to grab your emails and can even store your messages offline for viewing later. You will also be able to star your messages and archive them right from your mobile device. There is now download necessary and you can access the new Gmail by surfing to gmail.com but for now the service in only available in English and compatible with Android and iPhone OS2.2.1 and above.
Seems that video recording software has been found hidden deep inside the new iPhone 3.0 beta firmware. It seems that the software is not activated by the factory and can only be used by modifying the configuration files inside. Before you start hacking at your iPhone be warned that the software is not usable with current iPhones. According to some sources the new firmware will be fully functional by June and will offer video editing, video uploading, auto-focusing camera and digital compass. It should be ready to go for the iPhone 2009.
Last we reported on Mobiles5.com was that iPhone 2009 was to be released in 2 versions. One for North America and one for Europe. Well this is looking more likely as rumours are circulating that the iPhone will have a 3.2 megapixel camera. This has been somewhat confirmed from sources at OmniVision which has the CMOS image sensor contract from Apple. Things do get interesting as that same source revealed that a 5 megapixel camera is also being built for Apple. This could be for the North American premium iPhone 2009. You knew it was too good to be true when Skype was launched for the iPhone. The gravy train may be coming to a halt as some carriers are trying to ban the Skype service. The carriers are trying to sell it to their customers as a safety precaution saying they need to preserve bandwidth for other Internet users. German mobile carriers have already halted the Skype access and user are becoming outraged. There is nothing official from Apple about a new iPhone just yet. Yet there seems to be a buzz everywhere that a new iPhone will be launched in 2009 and it may have a monster 32 Gigabytes of memory. That would make it the largest storage space of any mobile device on the market. The information is being leaked by an analyst from Lazard Capital Markets citing a source from NAND memory industries. There might also be 2 versions of the iPhone in 2009 a high end model headed to North America and Europe and a lower model to the rest of the world.
