What could be dubbed as the coolest university in the world, Tokyo-based Aoyama Gakuin Univeristy’s School of Social Informatics has given each of the students a new iPhone loaded with a few custom built apps. The apps make it possible for the school to track the attendance record of each of their students and students can download all past lectures given by their professors. The iPhone trial is set to complete at the end of the year and a review will be done to see how effective it is at aiding students and locking down on cheating.
The original prince of darkness Ozzy himself is promoting the new Samsung Jack. In this new add by Samsung, Ozzy goes on to replace his personal assistants with the new mobile phone. The commercial is quite humorous as only Ozzy can pull off. This is the first time that Ozzy has promoted a mobile phone and the jury is still out as to if he can actually use a mobile device on his own. Twitter has done it again. The Microsoft Dev Team has used the ever popular website to “Tweet” the completion of Windows Mobile 6.5.
The official Tweet was: For the record, Windows Mobile 6.5 is DONE… complete… looks really good IOHO and every bit functional. ping us if u want to know more. This means that the new OS is ready to head to the manufacturing department and the first phones with WM 6.5 are expected to roll out sometime in the fall.
If it hasn’t launched yet it will anytime now. A new MySpace app for Blackberry is ready to go. The new version is 1.5.1 and while there is no official change log available at this time there are some noticeable upgrades. You will be able to retrieve the status and moods of upto 25 friends and even download the app in your own language which will please many users. Just when you least expect it a hacker has managed to get his hands on the new firmware for the HTC Hero. The hacker known as Haykuro managed to get a hold of the firmware and has created a 5 minute video walk through of it. The new firmware does a good job of updating the calendar and music player features as well as integrating Twitter and Facebook into the user interface. The new Android firmware is sure to be a hit with its users when it launches sometime in the 3rd quarter of 2009. In the meanwhile take a look at the video.
Nokia has decided to put the Ovi Share service on hold and focus instead on growing the Ovi Store. It has decided to pull its funding for the media sharing service. It will however keep the service running and try to further integrate other sharing services like Facebook and Flickr rather then compete against them. The largest cell phone maker is instead revamping the Ovi Store in order to create more revenue. The Ovi sharing service has been around since 2008 when it was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress trade show.
A super secret source has sent photos of the new Blackberry Storm 2 to popular Blackberry news site CrackBerry. The new mobile phone by RIM looks slightly different than the generation one Storm. It is thinner and wider which makes it look like a gen 1 was crushed by an anvil. There is not much more info released along with the photos other than the fact that the display has been updated and it comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera that includes auto-focus and a integrated flash. It will also support Wi-Fi. More on this as it becomes available.
Nokia has announced firmware upgrades for two of their popular phones the N79 and N85 mobile phones. The new firmware version is v20.175 and fixes a number of known issues as well as improving the user interface. There are some new features added to the phones with the new firmware aswell. Email has been upgraded, Ovi Widgets are added and a whole bunch of others. Users are recommended to install the new update as soon as possible and is easily done over the air or using your Nokia PC Suite.
