Samsung wants to sell half billion phones by 2012

Korean mobile giant Samsung wants to sell 500 million mobile devices by the year 2012. That is not that tall of an order since they are forecasting to sell over 170 million units worldwide just this year. The 500 million unit sales mark accounts for them to continue sales growth and market share growth too. Samsung is a leader in cell phone technology and their touchscreen phones are hugely popular. As more smartphones get sold and its market share is expected to reach 50% sometime soon. This is great news for Samsung as their smartphone touchscreens are some of the best on the market.



Mobile mail offering keeps Orange and Nokia working together

Nokia and Orange are going to keep working together thanks to a new mobile mail application. The new service dubbed Nokia Messaging by Orange will allow consumers across the globe to access their email on their Orange devices. The new service will start off by launching in the UK with France and Spain to follow shortly there after. All compatible phones will be able to use the push mail service and access multiple email accounts right from the Orange Homepage. Users will have access upto 10 personal email boxes and all emails and their attachments will be stored locally on your phone for easy viewing later.



Google Maps for mobile gets Upgrades

Google just keeps launching newer and better things. This time they have upgraded their Google Maps application for Windows Mobile. The latest release is version 3.0.1 and it is available for both the Professional and Standard versions of Windows Mobile. Don’t get too excited though as now new features have been added only a few bugs have been fixed especially on the Google Latitude feature. The new Latitude fix now allows updating your location while the app runs in the background. This new fix is sure to save your precious battery life.



Kyocera shows the future of mobile phones

Kyocera is set to launch a new revolutionary phone that is powered by the human touch. The more you use the phone the more kinetic energy is transferred to its battery cell. The phone itself is a OLED design created by Susan McKinney and can fold up like a wallet or unfold to a wide screen display. The phone is still in the early stages of design but you can be sure this will be the future of all mobile phones. The phone is created using a soft polymer skin that protects a flexible OLED display that hardly uses any energy at all. Should be an interesting release when it happens.

Nokia makes meetings easier

Mobile phone giant Nokia has launched “Easy Meet” a new app that lets users meet virtually using their cell phone. One user sends a request for a meeting to another using the new Nokia web service and the other user is prompted to accept or deny. Once both users have accepted the virtual meeting is off to the races. Requests for meetings can be sent via email or SMS and is quite easy to do. Once both users have connected they can easily share documents, a whiteboard, images and of course voice and text messages. The Easy Meet app should be a big hit among the business crowd.



Cheap smartphones are on the way

While to world continues to fight the recession users are looking for ways to get what they need on a smaller budget. Cell phone makers are taking note as they see their lower priced smartphones flying off the shelves. Blackberry is seeing tidy profits so far this year from its lower end models but Nokia remains the leading smartphone seller despite lower profits. Users are expected to continue their support for the lower priced smartphones as their cell phone budgets are not expected to rise this year only their expectations of what a phone should do. This has many cell phone manufactures scratching their heads on what sort of products to release.



U-Port app comes to iPhone

A new line of audio and video accessories has come to the iPhone courtesy of Onkyo. The most sought after is the Onkyo’s Universal connection dubbed the U-Port. The U-Port consists of a dock for the iPhone and iPods and has a HD Radio module. The U-Port dock was first introduced on the TX-SR507 and TX-SR607 and is now ready to hit the Apple shelves. The dock has everything you need to recharge your iPhone as well as multiple connections for audio and video outputs so that you can plug it into your home theater systems. It is the first 3rd party hardware to carry Apple’s “Works on iPhone” certification and should be available sometime in May.

You know how much we love video tours of our favorite mobile phones around here and this time its the unboxing of the Samsung S8300 Tocco. Slashgear was nice enough to give us all a video inside scoop of the 8 megapixel camera phone with a huge touchscreen interface. The video shows the phone in its original box so you can see everything you get and then is followed by a run through of most of the major features of the phone. AT&T lets you track your family

Today AT&T launched FamilyMap and new app that allows you to track you family members using their mobile phone numbers using the Internet. The app is designed to let mom and dad track their kids in a variety of locations using a interactive map. You will be able to toggle between satellite and street map views to see where the cell phone currently is. To keep info at bay the service will only track the location of phones on the same billing account. You will not be able to trace any other number using the service.



MobileMax launches GVDialer for Google Voice
